An anti-lock braking system or anti-skid braking system (ABS) is an automobile safety system is now found in almost all the cars and many bikes presently being sold.As the name suggests it is a braking system that avoids Tyre lock Or avoids Tyre skidding when sudden brakes are applied.If the Tyre locks or skids, it means the tires stop rotating but the car has momentum that keeps it going forward and you wont be able to steer them to avoid a collision.
When a vehicle starts to loose traction best way to prevent skidding is to apply a form of braking called cadence braking,This technique requires the driver has to quickly and repeatedly releases and reapplies the brakes.A driver who is skilled at this can usually avoid wheel lockup, but an anti-lock braking system does the job automatically and usually more efficiently.These systems work at the rate of 15-25 on-off cycles a second.
- When operating a vehicle with ABS never pump the brakes ,Doing so will make the ABS system ineffective Always apply firm pressure.
